About

Become a part of our 15-year tradition.

Summer 1996. The Unabomber was caught, but a bomb exploded at Atlanta’s Olympic Games. Michael Jackson married Debbie Rowe, while Charles and Diana divorced. Dolly the sheep was born, and Tupac Shakur died.

And in Tipton, Iowa, the Hardacre Film Festival became the first of its kind in Iowa.

The Hardacre Film Festival is one of the few precious opportunities those of us in our region of the Midwest have to screen truly independent and underground cinema. One of the primary goals of the Hardacre Film Festival is to bring a diverse selection of cutting-edge independent motion pictures to an Eastern Iowa audience who otherwise would not have an opportunity to view these films.

Iowa is home to some very well-known movie settings (Field of Dreams, The Bridges of Madison County) and is enjoying a surge in the film industry in recent years, both in terms of festivals (Landlocked Film Festival, Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival, Wild Rose Independent Film Festival) and major productions (The Final Season, Sugar, The Crazies).

In 2011, we screened dozens of features and shorts and hosted filmmakers from all around the world.

Hardacre calls the historic town of Tipton its home. With hospitality like no other and a plethora of other activities and places to eat in the area, you can make a whole weekend of it!

If you want to come to a festival free of the typical indie film politicking, blatant schmoozing and commercialism, Hardacre is for you. The focus is cinema as art, and the filmmakers as artists.

We hope to see you in August!
